The experiment also reminded me how easily simple online tips can spread without much context. A statement may be technically true yes, a plugged-in microwave uses a small amount of standby power but that doesn't necessarily mean the savings are significant enough to noticeably change most household bills.
In the end, unplugging my microwave didn't transform my electricity costs, but it did teach me an important lesson. Before changing everyday habits based on viral advice, it's worth understanding where your home's energy is actually being used. Sometimes the biggest savings come not from the smallest appliances, but from the ones we use every single day.
